flows into the sea, with a fishing harbour at its mouth. North of the harbour is the long stretch of white sand known as Medaketiya. To the south, beyond a low headland, is a series of small sandy coves. There is nothing much to see around here, thoughthere are a few old Dutch houses and a Dutch colonial rest-house in the village, but Tangalla can hardly be beaten for rest and relaxation.
Tangalle is a destination for water sports. Diving for shipwrecks and snorkeling is among some of the activity. Seafood is available in plenty with lobster as a specialty.
