Here is found the famous rock-temple dating to the first century BC. The caves of Dambulla sheltered the kind during his 14 years of exile from Anuradhapura. When he regained the throne, he caused to be built the most magnificent of rock-temples of this island.
Sigiriya (45 minutes drive from the resort) was no mere fortress, gloomy and forbidding. At the brief height of its glory – it was a royal citadel for more than 18 years and on of the loveliest that have graced this land.
There are many interpretations of the Sigiriya period, history replete with legend, love and betrayal. But one story remains, the story of Kasyapa (477 – 495 AD) its creator, King with an artist’s soul.
Jathika Namal Uyana, situated in the village Ulpathgama (which means village of springs) is a range of seven hills (half an hours drive from the resort). Among those hills lies the Pink Quartz ridge shimmering and sparking in the sunlight. This park is a place where history merges with natural beauty.
It was initially built as a sanctuary for the monks during king Devanampiyatissa's era in the 8th century. It was used as an open prison camp where the punishment was to plant 'Na' trees
A 45 minutes drive from the hotel and you will arrive at the Rangiri Dambulla International Cricket Stadium. Being the newest cricket venue in Sri Lanka with floodlights installed in 2003, the 60-acre site was leased from the Rangiri Dambulla Temple.
