Kandalama is a five star experience of nature; of that which is rustic, tranquil and mountainous. Located in a mountainous topology with parts of the natural habitat in the corridors of the hotel, the swimming pools are rocky and filled up with natural water sources, creating the experience of going for a swim in the natural wilderness. Herbal therapy and treatment provided in-house to the guests strengthens the nexus of Kandalama-Lankan heritage.
Watch the hotel emerge from the lush foliage of the mountainside. Enter the fantasy ambience of five star luxury suspended in a natural dreamscape. Relax and let your vision blend the sapphire blue of the infinity pool with the cool grey of the Kandalama Lake, where time has stood still for 2000 years. Wander the corridors amongst the twittering swifts and befriend the monkeys lazing among the branches. Watch green blend into green from floating rooftop lawns to virgin woodlands. Gaze upon the Sigiriya rock citadel from your room window. Absorb the magic of Kandalama; transcend time and reality.

Infinity Pool
The Infinity Pool is another unique feature of Heritance Kandalama hotel. It is one of the ingenious concepts of the hotel architect Mr. Geoffrey Bawa. The edge of the pool blends with the water of the Kandalama Lake, giving the impression that you are in the lake itself, although the pool is physically located at a much higher elevation. The Infinity Pool is also the location of the rock on which ‘Siripala’ (traditional flutist from the village) plays his flute in the evenings. Whether to soak in the pool, sun bathe or sit by the pool side and enjoy Siripala’s music, the Infinity Pool is a favourite location among guests.
Nature pool – Kaludiya Pokuna
The natural pool is another example of Geoffrey Bawa’s ingenious blending of the natural topography with the architectural features of the hotel. The bottom of the pool is the actual bedrock upon which the structure of the hotel rests. The surface of the rock has been coated with plastic to prevent water seepage and facilitate cleaning the pool. Bathing in irrigation reservoirs is a Sri Lankan tradition that stretches back two and a half millennia. As a guest of Kandalama you can also enjoy this experience from within the comfort of the hotel itself.
Rashmi Pool
The Rashmi Pool is one of the few features of the hotel that doesn’t have a name starting with ‘K’ (Pronounced in the local language – Sinhala as ‘Ka’). The pool is located on the west end of the hotel and catches the rays of the setting sun. As its name suggests, the water retains the heat, making the water wonderfully warm. It is the ideal pool to go for an evening swim. This is the largest pool of the hotel.

Enjoy the sunset from the lake and watch the birds settle down on tree tops for the night. Let the gentle swaying of the boat soothe you into a state of complete serenity.
