The word Thevawa originates from the Dalada Thewawa, one of the spiritual rituals associated with the Dalada Maligawa, the palace which houses the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. Situated in Kandy, the Dalada Maligawa is considered one of the foremost sacred' places of worship for Buddhists worldwide. The Thevawa is a ceremonial and religious offering consisting of specially prepared food and beverages adorned with flowers, made to the Buddha with the utmost respect, devotion and attention to detail. The offering is made amidst the beating of hevisi drums, oil lit lamps, and the aroma of incense, making Thevawa a magical experience.
