Rock View is a basic small guest house that is well maintained and situated very close to Sinharaja Rain Forest. The staff is very friendly and provides a personalised service.
6 very clean and comfortable rooms with private balconies overlook a mountain which borders the Sinharaja Rain Forest. Toliets are newly built and very clean. Hot water is available in the 3 rooms located in the upstairs. However, the towels and linen are a little old, worn out and mismatched and the pillows, which have seen better days.
The view from each room (on the upper floor, at least) is breathtaking. Standing as it does, on the edge of a tea mountain, the view from the balcony is of the entire valley below and of the hilly range above it, encompassing paddy fields, pine forests, mountains and mist.
The food, which can be brought to the room and eaten on the balcony, is good, basic and cheap. The remote township of Kalawana only has chicken, so for those of you who like red meat, you should take your own. No liquor or beer is served, but you may take your own.
The service is really good with the hotel staff bending over backward. |
