Rainforest edge is an ideal hotel for access to the Sinharaja Rainforest - arriving late for dinner and getting up very early next morning and leave with packed breakfast and lunch to do the forest for the full day.

The scenery is absolutely spectacular. It is set in a valley completely surrounded by hills. The pool looks beautiful, but quite cold. The hotel itself is great for a couple of nights at the most as there is nothing to do in the evenings. It is very clean and the rooms are quite quirky with a' flintstones' type feel. The pool looks very nice. The food is all Sri Lankan, and very good.

If the weather is good during the evening, arrange with one of the hotel staff to be accompanied on a walk around the village and even visit a home. You might be able to try the local palm toddy. For anyone English it tastes a bit like scrumpy. There are many traditional products of interest you may even want to buy for your consumption back home if you learn their preparations.

The trip to the rainforest requires an entrance fee to be paid to the controlling authorities. Taking a guide is optional although it makes a lot of sense to have one around. Most cars and vans cannot travel up the rough road to the rainforest access point and a Jeep hire may be necessary.
