The two ensuite bedrooms are equipped with fans and are furnished with canopied four-poster beds fitted with mosquito netting. The stylish polished cement bathrooms have showers with refreshing well water.

A small lounging area with built-in furniture and large floppy cushions, opens out to the front verandah furnished with recliners and a dining table. There is a small kitchen where guest can cook their own meals. Tamarind Hut is staffed with a houseboy and gardener who will also do your laundry and shopping. A cook can be arranged with prior notice. Fresh fruit, vegetables and other produce can be brought from the village market or from Galle town. For those preferring to venture out, there are some good beach side restaurants and cafes in Unawatuna serving fresh seafood, Sri Lankan and Western cuisine as well as alcoholic beverages, including the Wijaya Beach, Why Beach Club, and the Kingfisher. The gardens at Tamarind Hut are peaceful and ideal for yoga or meditation. The 16 metre swimming pool overlooks the paddyfields. Bicycles or a trishaw can be arranged for those wanting to explore the surrounding village.

Visit the nearby ancient Yatagala Temple with several Buddha statues, an ancient Bo Tree, and peaceful meditation cave. The 17th century Galle Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site, is another interesting excursion. Hours can be spent exploring the maze of narrow streets lined with Dutch and British period buildings still in use, the sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the growing collection of art galleries, antique shops and restaurants. There are some fine beaches in Unawatuna and Mirissa offering a range of watersports including diving, snorkelling, surfing, and skiing. Whale and Dolphin watching excursions are on offer at Mirissa.
