AccommodationAccommodation The three large airconditioned bedrooms have comfortable and inviting four-poster beds with overhead canopies fitted tastefully with mosquito nets. The master bedroom has two four-poster beds with a direct sea view. An antique Almairah, a bureau to do your writing, satellite television and DVD player, Internet access point for workaholics, are all part of the luxurious furnishings in each of the bedrooms. Teak and Asian oak floors adds to the warmth of this house. All the rooms have ensuite bathrooms with ‘his and her’ washbasins, hot water showers and a range of herbal soaps.
FacilitiesFacilities The main living area includes a combined sitting and dining room, tastefully furnished with an Indonesian flourish, and a wooden-decked terrace that provides for wonderful alfresco meals. There is a freshwater swimming pool in a side garden with its own ‘Jacuzzi bench’ at one end with views of the sea, perfect for the blood-red sunsets. The grassed frontage is ideal for sunbathing and snoozing. A well laid garden with groves of trees and mangroves, secluded areas to sunbath write or relax in, is indeed an enchanting place. The garden with comfortable lounge chairs have a fantastic view of the ocean. If you wish, you are welcome in the spacious and modern kitchen to do your own cooking with the in-house chef giving you a helping hand. You decide where to dine. Dining is an experience. The staff take pride in laying a picture perfect table complete with flowers.Western dishes and Sri Lakan rice and curry using locally available ingredients are served. Fresh seafood dishes prepared from the catch of the day are a specialty here. The villa is fully staffed inclusive of an English speaking Public Relations manager,who is on duty from 7am to 6.30pm daily. The staff is helpful, courteous and eager to please, whilst also sensitive to the need for privacy. For families traveling with children, a nanny can be organized to supervise whilst the parents take a break.
Excursions Excursions There is good snorkeling in unspoilt coral pools just in front of the Villa. Boats can be arranged from Mirissa further ahead, for day or night fishing, accompanied by experienced fishermen. Surfing is ideal at Unawatuna, laden with small and rustic beach bar shacks; just a few minutes walk away. A boat ride on Koggala Lake with its many islands is another wonderful experience just walking distance inland from the villa. Eagle Island with about 100 nesting Eagles, and other small islands with nesting parrots, and a variety of bird species makes Koggala Lake a bird watcher's delight. The historical town of Galle, with its Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-protected World Heritage site and a melting pot of cultural influences, is just a 15-minute drive from South Point Villa. With its well-preserved ramparts overlooking the cricket stadium, lighthouse staring into the Indian Ocean, narrow streets, interesting restaurants and boutique hotels full of character, Galle Fort deserves hours of exploration. The Hadunagoda tea factory, Yala wildlife sanctuary, Sihnaraja’s magical rainforest are all interesting excursions from South Point Villa.
