This private holiday home of an avid golfer, Nimal Wettimuny. This is a beautiful three-bedroom villa with spectacular views and light, contemporary interiors. The main open plan sitting, dining and kitchen areas have cooling cement floors, high timber roofs and large glass doorways that open-out onto a balcony with splendid views. The interiors are elegantly designed with a fusion of antique and contemporary style, with serene white-washed walls infused with a hint of colour from the artwork and soft furnishings. The Sanctuary is managed and maintained by the Victoria Golf and Country Resort. |

AccommodationAccommodation The Sanctuary has three double rooms – two with balconies overlooking the surrounding hills and one smaller room overlooking the garden. The ensuite bathrooms have hot and cold water showers, sinks and toilets. The master suite is significantly more spacious and luxurious than the other two rooms which have slightly lower ceilings. None of the rooms are airconditioned at present. Overhead ceiling fans helps to keep the rooms cool and comfortable.
FacilitiesFacilities The entrance to the house leads to the spacious living and dining areas and a large covered terrace that has spectacular surrounding views. The open plan kitchen is well-equipped with modern conveniences. Sri Lankan and western dishes are served here. Discuss your preferences with the cook and he will ensure that delicious meals are prepared using fresh ingredients – or you can cook yourself. A few steps down hill take you to the secluded swimming pool, also with spectacular views. Other facilities at the Sanctuary include satellite TV, DVD player with DVD library and music system. The house is cleaned daily by the staff from Victoria.
ExcursionsExcursions The magnificent Victoria Golf and Country Club, just 10 mins walk away, offers a wide range of facilities including an 18-hole golf course, a putting green and practice range, bar and terrace dining, floodlit tennis court, Saddle club and horse safaris, as well as a large outdoor swimming pool. The surrounding reservoir and central hills are ideal for bird watching. Over 100 species of birds can be spotted while going on nature trails within the 500-acre estate accompanied by a local expert. Mountain bike trails also provide for much adventure. The city of Kandy itself is steeped in history and culture. Interesting activities include a visit to the Temple of the Tooth where a sacred tooth relic of the Lord Buddha is enshrined; Peradeniya Botanical gardens, with its orchid collection and formally laid-out trees; nature walks in Udawatte Kale Forest Reserve; and Kandy’s rich ancient arts and crafts including: drum-making, Dumbara mat-weaving, crafting Kandyan jewelry and traditional Kandyan dance and drumming.
