Lunugamvehera national park is the immediate catchment of Lunugamvehera reservoir, and is home to 21 species of fish, 12 amphibians, 33 reptiles, 184 birds and 43 mammals. Lunugamvehera reservoir built across Kirindi Oya is along Weerawila-Wellawaya road .It is largest irrigation project undertaken in the Hambanthota .Distirct, and will enable the cultivation of 12,960hectares of land.
