The Kalpitiya peninsular off the Puttalam Lagoon is both beautiful and untouched and offers a wide range of activities to see and do! The small town gives a real insight into the lifestyle of the local close-knit fishing community. Watching the return of the overnight fishing boats, visit to the fish market, the Dutch Fort and St Peter?s Kerk (church) in the town are some interesting things to do. Boat rides in the lagoon, canoeing down the river, 4WD jeep rides on the sand dunes, Scuba diving and snorkeling at Bar Reef - the largest coral reef in Sri Lanka - are activities to enjoy the topology of Kalpitiya. The sea and reef off Kalpitiya is home to a remarkable array of tropical fish which include manta rays and reef sharks and five of the world?s seven species of turtle!
