Hike to Horton Plains National Park is Approximately 9 hours from Hatton. A mixture of highland forest and wet grassland, this is the highest plateau in the country at 2000m and covers an area of 32km2.The country’s second & third highest mountains, Kirigalpotta & Thotupola, are found within the borders of the park. The park also has a well-visited tourist attraction at World's End, a sheer precipice with a 1050 m drop. The return walk passes the scenic Baker Falls. Early morning visits are essential, both to see the wildlife, and to view World's End before mists close in during the later part of the morning. Though this was one of the best elephant habitats in the country they are locally extinct due to poaching & sports hunting occurred during the colonial era. Leopard and Sambhur & wild boar are the most common large mammals in Horton Plains. Endemic Bear Monkey, Rusty- Spotted and Fishing cats, Otter, Black napped hare and Giant Squirrel are among other mammals.
